You may have dropped out for various reasons but that doesn’t mean you have to turn to a life of crime in order to live in America or that you have to settle for less income than the high school or college graduate. All you really have to do is shift your mind-set. There are thousands of opportunities out here that you can leverage and sore beyond the “college educated” robot. Yes I said it! And yes I am a college graduate. But I realized I was being told what my worth was and that it could change for the worse over time. For instance, during my college years I worked as a nurse aid in a hospital. I listened to the nurse’s talk about getting incentive pay for high patient census vs. low staff days. A new graduate could make an additional $15 - $20/hr with incentive pay and agency was always higher. I couldn’t wait to get my BSN. So ten years ago I thought I had arrived. Only to find out incentive pay is now $5 - $10/hr and don’t even get me started with agency pay, ughh!!
Do you think the rates have increased yet? Not quite in fact they have remained the same. So, what did I do about it? Well, first I ventured out and became an Independent Nurse Provider to supplement my income. This endeavor gave me my own small business, so I had various write-offs when tax time came around and I loved it. My concerns with the policies were the fact that I had to keep my charting for 7-10 years in case of a suit. Then there was the headache of maintaining the 485 Care Plans or rather ensuring that the physicians signed them in a timely manner. Really, it was such an annoyance- you get dinged if it was six days before or after the expiration. Okay so what happens when the doctor is on vacation, or just taking their sweet time about getting to it because they can? My thinking became OMG!! There is way too much freaking paperwork for me to consume myself into. This is not my only job, I don’t have time to babysit these Doc’s (i.e. call daily to ensure they sign and fax the form back) but rest assured I was the one to take the fall when it came time for a structural review and the simple fact that I sent it in a timely manner was null and void.
Other issues of concern were discontinuation of services. Get this, I have to give two months’ notice for my client to secure a replacement yet they can kick me to the curb on the spot LOL. That became an issue due to time availability. I knew that I would not make this a full time consideration because my time was not mine. Clients would reel you in with “oh yes we are very flexible” then start demanding specific hours of service and your locked in for two inconvenient month’s or kicked to the curb lickety split. So after six years of IP service I let it go and quickly missed the tax write offs for being a Small Business Owner. What I am about to tell you is what brings me back to the high school dropout even though I didn’t get this info from one. But, my sister (a college drop-out after one semester) introduced me to the idea of network marketing and let me tell you I now have Doctors, Lawyers, Nurses, Preachers and Social Workers on my team. I say that to tell you if they can see it surely you can especially since it doesn’t take any credentials to get involved. Are you ready?? Click here to learn about tax breaks.
